Counter-Strike Synopsis: Real life Terrorist/Counter-Terrorist scenarios are played out in this Half-Life mod. Online players choose between being Terrorist or Counter-Terrorist in a variety of different missions. As a terrorist it is your job to blow up certain targets with bombs, guard hostages, or assassinate VIPs. Meanwhile on the flipside it’s the counter-terrorists job to diffuse the situation by escorting VIPs to safely, rescuing hostages held by terrorists, or diffusing bombs and guarding bombsites. Teamwork is almost always essential for victory, though not required.
My Take: The thing that separates CS from all those other first person shooters is that you have to work as a team to consistently succeed. Co-operative games have always proven to winners and CS is no different. Another aspect that this game excels at is the fact that it is very realistic. From the scenarios, to weapons, to special forces/militant groups, everything has a real life equivalent. This game is more than just going in with the biggest gun and fragging people. In fact you hurt your team by doing that. Instead by cooperating, teams can always complete missions. Gone are the days of running off guns blazing. Instead now you have to worry about where the enemy might be, weapon recoil, and injuries affecting your play. While these things may have been in other games before, in CS you actually need to be aware of them. This is not to say that the game is perfect, there are still bugs, which hopefully programmers will take care of. Overall it’s an excellent game.
